Little extras

Don't be afraid to turn up the voltage on your embellishments! Just because they came that way doesn't mean you can't change them.

Add gems to your stickers and chipboard.
Cut out patterns in your patterned paper.
Paint letter stickers.
Stamp on chipboard.
Whatever. They're your embellishments. Make them you.

On my layout for the Love challenge I added a gem to the center of a chipboard flower. Simple... yes. Big impact... yes. (Okay... well... not BIG... but a little added oomph!)

Five Faves Challenge!

I was looking through my gallery and noticed some products I seem to be using over and over on a lot of my layouts... so I thought I'd turn it into a challenge! List at least five of your favourite products right now (either here in the comments, or on the post on the message board) and then create a layout that uses at least three of those products. It doesn't have to be a name brand... it can by a type of product (see my list below). Link your layout up and I'll draw for a small prize on Sunday!

So, here are five of my faves right now:

Shaped papers
Felt embellishments
Pink Paislee
Red Star Kits (all the co-ordination is done for me!)
chipboard

And here is my layout (using shaped paper, felt embellishments, Pink Paislee and chipboard):

Home Sweet Home

We were looking at photos at my mom's over Christmas and I have to say how fun that was! Sure looking at photos of my brothers and I was enjoyable, but just look at that wallpaper! And that stereo we're standing in front of... it played records and we loved listening to it. And the vase behind us, my mom still has it (but I think she threw out those plastic flowers! LOL)

Looking at these photos inspired me to create something about our home and how it is right now. And this adorable Maya Road chipboard album from the Shoppe and the February kit inspired me to make the following chipboard album.

Thanks for looking!

An early, early bird challenge

for this weekend's online crop.

I challenge you to used packaging from your scrappy supplies on your layout (or project).

Here's my example... I loved the Prima Lollipop flowers that came in the February kit. AND, I loved the pretty packaging they came with. So much so, I used it on this layout:

Link your layouts using scrappy packaging either here or here in the MSS challenges forum before midnight, Sunday, Feb. 8th and I'll draw a winner who'll receive a RAK from me. :)

Can't wait to see what you create!

Giveaway winner

So, by random flicking of the mouse wheel... the winner of the January giveaway is....

Susi!!!!

Trying to fake it

I loved the look of the Prima Lollipop flowers that are in the February kit. The ones I received in my kit were yellow and I thought one would work perfectly on the page I was making... but it was the wrong colour.

So, I decided to try and make my own.

What you need:
cardstock, patterned paper
circle cutter
baby wipe (or a damp paper towel)
edge distresser
Versamark ink
white embossing powder
heat gun
a mini-brad

Here's what I did:

1. I cut two circles of kraft cardstock (different sizes) and three from Pink Paislee patterned paper, in sizes so they would nest together.

2. I wet the edges of each circle and then distressed them a bit. I also played with bending and shaping the edges to get the look I was going for.

3. I inked some of the edges of the flowers with versamark and then covered them with white embossing powder. I heated them with my heat gun. (If you don't have embossing powder and a heat gun, I think white paint on the edges would work, too.)

4. I stacked them together, poked a hole through the middle and attached a mini-brad.

Here's the end result:
