Sketch #26

Leigh asked me earlier this week if she could get the sketch early and make a layout for me to post with it... of course I said yes! So here's the sketch (12x12 with two photos):

and here's Leigh's layout:

I decided to make a card based on the sketch:

We'd love to see what you make with this sketch... I'll be posting in the Scrapbook Foundations forum, or you can link to this post!

New October Afternoon

New October Afternoon has arrived! Finally! And it is yummy!

I'm posting images of the papers here because they don't have pictures that show both of the sides. (And we all know that if you don't like one side, you usually like the other!). So.... if you're ordering online, feast your peepers on the B-sides...

Ducks in a Row

This Little Piggy

Sleep Tight

Peek-a-boo

Patacake

Lullaby

Cherry Hill

Tea Towel

Sunday Dishes

Recipe Box

New Apron

Egg Basket

Cookie Jar

See? Yummy right?

And there's also label stickers, word stickers, alphabet stickers and the highly anticipated wild cards...

The rub-ons and rubber charms will be shipping soon.
We also got some previously released alphabets and stamps!
You can buy the new Cherry Hill collection here, and the new Ducks in a Row collection here.

In the details... old/new

I know I definitely like to follow trends in scrapbooking and I love having the newest products in my scrappy stash.

But some older things I am reluctant to part with, especially if I LOVED them when they first came out.

A good example of this is the fabric letters that Scrapworks came out with years ago. I used quite a few of them, and even though I haven't used them in a couple of years, I've been hesistant to get rid of them.

So, I tried to find a new way to use them on a layout. I decided to combine them with some new loves (a JB bingo card, felt and some layering).

Thanks for looking!

In the details... reusing things

Yesterday I talked about repurposing packaging from scrappy products.

Today, I'm thinking along the line of what makes scrapping easier.

Sometimes, it makes things go a lot quicker to use a sketch, scraplift someone or reuse one of your own favourite designs.

I also like to reuse titles and journaling... in my Word program.

Once I've typed up my journaling or title, I save it (either in my scrapbooking folder or my cards folder.) Then, I can go back and use it again--- just change out the journaling, but the spacing/sizing can be the same.

Or, like my example here, just change up the font and print it out again. Jonah was invited to two birthday parties this weekend. I made one card with a Sassfrass chipboard owl and this title.

So, for my second card, I decided to reuse my title, but changed the font and design of the card, using a Hero Arts Stamp and making my own tree.

In the details.... reusing packaging

A lot of the manufacturers are designing their packaging to be just as cute as their product lately! So why not take advantage of this and use the packaging on your layout? (Hey, it's better than just throwing it away!)

On my Girlie girl layout, I used the packaging that came with the Pink Paislee chipboard letters to frame and edge my photo.

Challenge: Create a new layout using some scrappy packaging on it.

If you decide to take me up on this challenge, post your layout in the gallery and then link it back here to the comment section of this post, or here in the forum. Do this by Sunday, May 31st at midnight (CST) and I'll enter your name for a RAK from me.

Can't wait to see what you create!

In the details... gathered ribbon

Last week, I was inspired by a post by my friend, Sherry, to create a layout with ribbon, but to gather it to give it a raised effect.

I created this layout and used this technique:

To do, cut a length of ribbon. With a needle and thread, stitch a wide stitch through the ribbon. Then pull on the ends of the thread to gather the ribbon together. Attach to your layout. (I used my Kuyoku Dot 'n Roller adhesive.)

Simple and sweet.

In the details....

I love our gallery and looking at layouts online, but it really can't compare to seeing layouts in real life. That seems to be where the little details of a layout really stand out and you notice them.

This week, I thought I'd try to highlight some layouts and point out the "little details" that really make them shine.

My first example is the layout that I made this weekend using Liz's sketch #25. When I was putting the layout together (something I always find quite easy to do when I have a great sketch to use as a base, the chipboard flower didn't seem to be working for me very well. It just felt like there was something missing.

So, I went back to the package of chipboard to see if I could use something else instead, when I got the idea to layer a couple of different chipboard shapes together. This definitely gave me the finished look I was going for.

Thanks for looking!

Sketch # 25

Sorry I missed last week... I'm trying to adjust to the new normal (soccer schedules for two kids now, plus I picked up an extra shift at work) and hope I've got a new routine down... here's the sketch for this week. A one page, 8.5x11 sketch, but should be easily adapted to 12x12:

and my layout...
If you're inspired to create something with this sketch, link it up here in the comments or on the message board!

my day off....

and i am so glad to be able to scrap a little...
sometimes i find my only embellishments are with
what i do with patterned paper..
like this layout..
i made some scallops, and other than the flower rubon,
its the only embellishment i have...could i have
added more!!! heck yeah!!! but not all my layouts need to
be embellishment heavy...

my rule of thumb is, the more important the photo, the less i
usually have on it. I like the photo to always be the focal.
but theres always exceptions..
if i am doing simple everyday photos, i tend
to add more, just because...

well...i am off to watch some LOST...
catcha later!!!

hello again

i think the best thing about embellishments is that there is so much out there to choose from..that being said, i can't have it all, so i decided a long time ago to make one type of embellishment work for a variety of themes...

....with this layout for example, owls have nothing to do with this layout, but i thought the colours worked well, and i thought why not??? although i did think that the big owl seemed to be rubbing his tummy...

this is the way i scrap most of the time actually..matching colour, not theme..

New Sassafrass

New Sassafras is now in store and online.

The cutest embellishments and inspiring papers!

Here's just a few...

Sunday, May 17, 2009

hello you.

well its my turn on the blog this week.
Let me tell you, its really hard coming
up with some inspiration for the members
on this blog when half the time its them
i get the inspiration from...

So i thought i'd show you a couple of ways i get
inspired.
1) i keep a little bowl of "stuff" near by,
like leftovers from embellishment packs...and i
can just sift through for an idea...

2) i also have "stuff" in my MM caddy...its up on my paper rack,
but i like the way it looks and sometimes thats all i need to
feel the creative urge.

If you didn't already know, i am a hoarder of my
embellishments. I like to see them. I love the way they look in
their packages...So sometimes i will just put them on display..

i got this little frame yesterday at a yard sale and wanted to do
something with it...so why not put my fave embellishment in it!!!
i love elsie's stuff and this little rubber charm had a rainbow
in it!!! Perfect!!!

So thats a couple of ways i seek creativity...this week i hope to share some more ideas with you, and maybe break into my stash
of embellies...we'll see....

happy scrapping!!!
