Party Invitations

Hi everyone! Hope you had a great long weekend. We got a puppy over the weekend, so ours was spent chasing after the little guy and trying to keep him away from the cats, as much as we could. Needless to say, I'm a little tired today :)

My mom's 60th birthday is coming up, and so of course the scrapbooker in me gets really excited at the thought of being able to make invites for the big party. But then I remembered that making invitations is similar to making cards. And as much as I like making cards, I always get stuck. What is it about the little 4.25 x 5.5 pieces of paper that terrifies me so much?! So I turn to the internet in hopes of finding inspiration. Here are some of the sites I've found:

Kristina Werner
Jennifer McGuire
Cardalicious
Laura Craigie

After finding a design, I will almost ALWAYS run out of alphas. I never have enough that are small. So then dilemma #2 is scouring through the packs of alphas I do have and figuring out which ones would actually match the paper I’ve chosen.

Once I have that figured out, I start the assembly line process. I cut up all the paper/ribbons/etc. I need and group them in piles. I then score and fold all the cards. Most of the time I stop before I have them all done because I’m too impatient and just want to see a finished invitation! So without further adieu, here’s what I came up with. It’s nothing fancy, but in the world of e-vites and Facebook event invites, getting an actual paper invitation in the mail, is always special.
Supplies used:
pp - American Crafts, Scenic Route
Ribbon - Dollarama + American Crafts
Alphas - Sassafras, Making Memories, Studio Calico, American Crafts
Stamp: Stampin Up!

Stay tuned, and I'll show you what other decorations I'm planning on making for the party!

Tissue paper flower tutorial

I recently bought a new pair of Merrell sandals and like the tissue paper that it came with so much that I decided to use it for a scrappy project.

Here's what I did:

Cut a rectangle of the tissue paper (mine was approximately 8" by 5").

Fold it into a square (mine was six layers).

Cut out a circle (I tried punching out a circle with my punch, but it didn't even want to punch out one circle, so I used my scissors.)

Crumple them up a bit and layer them together.

Add a flower and a brad (I used Dear Lizzy product.)

Attach it to my layout.

And here's the completed layout.

Supplies used: Bazzill cardstock, AC Dear Lizzy pp, fabric paper, brads, embellishments, flowers & thickers, Pink Paislee letter stickers and a Little Yellow Bicycle journaling card, all from the Shoppe.

Thanks for looking!

black & white

So technically not colours..
you cannot mix these 2 and make blue..
all you get is shades of grey..

what can i say about b&w??
it makes a dramatic statement, especially
for photos, and when you highlight an image
with a colour, it pops even more..

when i think of black and white together, i
think of newspaper, of salt and pepper,
of dyanmic duos..ying and yang...
polar opposites...

i can't find any other layouts with b&w...

i just love the halloween paper.

so this one uses the b&w photo with a pop of colour

i think i'm gonna run and maybe think of some
black and white inspired layouts to do...

later!

PURPLE

Purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.

According to surveys, almost 75 percent of pre-adolescent children prefer purple to all other colors. Purple is a very rare color in nature; some people consider it to be artificial.

Light purple is a good choice for a feminine design. You can use bright purple when promoting children's products.

Light purple evokes romantic and nostalgic feelings.
Dark purple evokes gloom and sad feelings. It can cause frustration.

i actually thought i used purple more!?
i really like purple, i am surrounded by it all the time,
its Aymie's favourite colour..
these 3 layouts are all i could find using purple..
craziness.

hmmm...
now to decide what colour comes next.
later,
Jen

Cards

One of my favourite things to do with my scrappy supplies is to make greeting cards. I've been doing it for years now and the recipients seem to love getting a homemade card.

Here are two cards that I made with the MSS May kit:

(I find with birthday cards, it's fun to use some of the numbers from my thickers stash.)

Thanks for looking!

BLUE!!!!

My other favourite colour.
the blue-green shade from the
crayola crayon box to be exact.

Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.

You can use blue to promote products and services related to cleanliness (water purification filters, cleaning liquids, vodka), air and sky (airlines, airports, air conditioners), water and sea (sea voyages, mineral water). As opposed to emotionally warm colors like red, orange, and yellow; blue is linked to consciousness and intellect. Use blue to suggest precision when promoting high-tech products.

Blue is a masculine color; according to studies, it is highly accepted among males. Dark blue is associated with depth, expertise, and stability; it is a preferred color for corporate America.

Avoid using blue when promoting food and cooking, because blue suppresses appetite. When used together with warm colors like yellow or red, blue can create high-impact, vibrant designs; for example, blue-yellow-red is a perfect color scheme for a superhero.

Light blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness.
Dark blue represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness.

i use blue alot, mostly to represent sky..

lots of sky in my scrapbooks!!!

i like the white...i mean blue...space in this layout!!!

thanks for following along this
colourful path with me!!!

a nsd challenge

There's a couple things I wanted to do during my hour here during national scrapbooking day.

One, was introduce the DT layouts using the May kit.
You can find the layouts here.

In particular I love this one from Jen...

DSC04689

I love how it's not at all heavy on the dark green and yellow colors that dominate the kit.
I also love this one from Leigh...

that banner is just the cutest!

And, my personal favorite of mine?
This one...

sam_500px

(Sorry that the images are cut off, but I don't have software to edit them on this computer!)
The kits will be in store and online on Tuesday!

But, that brings me to my challenge.
So... I want you to scraplift yourself!

The layout I just shared. It's a scraplift.... of myself! Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it right???
I wanted to show you the layout that I based it on... but I can't find it in the gallery. But trust me. ;) (it's a family picture with red papers in that grid format.)

Anyway....

play along and post in the MSS gallery and link back here. I'll draw a winner for a special prize (oooh) Monday morning!

some scrappy fun

i love my scraps!!!
especially when i do paperpiecing and need
that tiny bit of colour..
..and i love having these little projects on
display, so colourful and cute.
so today i am going to show you how i made
the picture above. its pretty easy.

what you'll need is;
-a good variety of scraps
-your favourite embellishments
-a frame or shadowbox (doesn't matter the size..
i used a small shadowbox, but you could use a
frame too!)
- and anything else you love to use!

step 1. I used a dollar store shadow box. remove the sliding
glass panel, and remove the paper inside. I used this paper
as it was the perfect size and used it as my base for my
picture.

step 2. I found in my scraps some paper to create an outdoor
scene. i used the light blue for the sky. You don't have to
cover the entire back with the blue as you'll be adding green.

step 3. add the rolling landscape! i grabbed 3 shades of green
that all kinda of matched..i created a gentle curve on each to
give depth.

step 4. Now comes the fun part! deciding what is going on the
landscape! i love these chip board trees, and haven't used
them, and i love the owl rubons and am always looking at them.
but you can totally use whatever you want..i was gonna use the
house rubon, but it looked too small beside my tree.

step 5. look at your progress, and decide what else you would like
to add..i added the glitter cloud and the hearts.

step 6.so in my shadowbox i have some grass right at the front. how i
did that was take a light green and fray it (just small cuts) i left
some extra paper at the bottom and folded it back. the folded piece
becomes the part that goes on the "floor" of my shadow box.

step 7. after i finished my grass, i felt it was missing something
so i added the grey cat and few more sprigs of grass

step 8. add some phrase or word if you like, or just leave it
blank. my words were a last minute detail..

so there you go!!! if you have any questions, i'll be around
the forum!!
later!!
