Scallop out of patterned paper

I love polka dots. I find it easier to work with them the smaller they are though (like the background paper I used). What about taking the patterned paper with the larger polka dots and cutting it out as a scallop like I did here?

And, what about cutting up those border stickers. Sure... you can just slap them on as is, but cutting them apart makes them go farther too!

Border Tip #2

Cutting up paper.

Again... instead of using just a strip of paper, what about cutting up a pattern in your paper and laying it down like a border.

In this layout I trimmed off a long strip, but then cut it up and randomly spaced them along the bottom of my page (I also threw in a different pattern just for fun). Add some machine stitching from end to end and voila!

In this next layout I took the obvious pattern in this paper and cut out the little cars. Then I placed a few on my page and created a little parade. Machine stitching again, and done.

And, bonus points if you noticed that I also started small borders wth embellishments... another thing you can try!

Border ideas/tutorials

So, this week I've decided to share some ideas for borders. I'll often put a border at the edge of my page or under my photos (I liken it to underlining something important).

Idea 1: A folded border.

An alternative to just doing a paper strip (although I did that here too) or a scrap of ribbon. What about adding a strip of paper that's folded?

Take a piece of paper and fold in random places. Staple or stitch in place.

Or use a ribbon in it's place, like I did here...
