Wednesday Challenge
First of all... last week's challenge winner... Susi!
This week's challenge...
elevate something on your page! The easiest way is to use pop-dots... but if you don't have those... you can definately get creative.
Here I used pop-dots to raise a flower I cut out of Cosmo Cricket paper.
Supplies: cardstock (Bazzill), patterned paper (KI Memories, Sasafrass, Cosmo Cricket), chipboard corner (Scenic Route), brad (American Crafts, K&Co.), letter stickers (American Crafts), flower (Sassafras), tag (Making Memories), butterfly (Heidi Swapp), word strip (K&Co.), staple, heart pin, button

Misting: a tutorial
I've been noticing a new trend in spraying mists on your layouts and wanted to try it out.
Marcy carries some spray mists at the Shoppe, which is a great way to go. I wanted to try it first, however, before buying some, because, well, I'm cheap. I mean, frugal. ;)
So, here's what I did.
I went to Walmart and on their clearance rack, I found this bottle of Black Cherry room spray (it smelled like cough syrup!) and emptied it down the drain.
Then I added several drops of SU! reinker, along with some water to my bottle.
I punched a few circles from cardstock and adhered them in place on my cardstock (this would be the background of my layout.) Then, I found an 8" deep box and put my layout in it (this is to prevent overspray and avoids getting your area sprayed.) I liberally misted the cardstock and removed it from the box.
When I removed the cardstock circles, I had circles on my layout the colour of my cardstock.
Then, I put my layout together.
Where the negative circles were, I placed buttons.
And that's it.
There are so many things that you could do with the mists, using punches, diecut shapes, masks, mixing more than one colour of mist, etc. For those of you who enjoy techniques, I suggest you give mists a try.

Wednesday Challenge
Okay.
Internet's back and so are the challenges.
This week's challenge...
cut out the pattern from a piece of patterned paper.

I cut out the clouds from a sheet of October Afternoon paper.
I'd link to all the items I used in the online store... but they're all old and not in stock anymore!
Post your layouts in the MSS gallery and link them to this post (in the comment section). I'll draw a winner next Wednesday.

A mini-album with the August kit
I loved the papers that came in the August kit and knew they would be perfect for a mini-book that I wanted to make for my SIL as a thank you for hosting us while we visited them in Denver.
(I was really happy with the end result-- it was hard to give it away!)
As I usually do with mini-books, I kept a fairly basic design throughout the book, but changed up the elements and papers to give it interest. My favourite part was selecting a symbol for each page from the sheet of October Afternoon patterned paper called Dew Drop Inn. I was so pleased to find one that worked for each photo!
(You can click on the images to see them larger.)
In addition to the kit, I used some other sheets of October Afternoon pp from the Road Map line, some American Crafts thickers and a Making Memories journaling stamp, all from the Shoppe.
